GUEST SUPPLIER OFFERS A TASTING AT THE PRENZEL SHOP
The Prenzel Shop Botany 13th February, 11am-3pm

As you all know we are very proud of what New Zealand has to offer in the food sense and even more proud when it comes to 'local' food.
River Estate Extra Virgin Olive OilsRIVER ESTATE EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OILS are outstanding Olive products that are grown and pressed in Whitford on the Wells Grove Estate owned and operated by Barry and Sheryl Wade. The Wade family has lived in Whitford for many generations; in fact the olive grove is situated on “Wades” Road named after the family.
Barry was very successful in competition during 2009. River Estate Olive Oils earned a Gold medal and “Best in Class” for their Frantoio olive variety.
That means out of all the Gold Medals Frantoio was THE Best GOLD medal product.
River Estate Olive Oils also took Silver medals for both their Tuscan blend and Leccino varieties. How good is that? Well done Barry and Sheryl.
You can meet with Barry and taste River Estate Olive Oils on February 13th at our Botany tasting room 11am until 3pm. It’s a good chance to ask questions firsthand.

NEW PRODUCT
Prenzel OrangecelloPrenzel Orangecello was released just before Christmas and is proving to be a popular addition to our spirit range.
Prenzel's first orange based liqueur is a very comfortable half way house between a typical Triple Sec, and Cointreau.

Like Cointreau, Prenzel's Orangecello is an essentially sweet liqueur made from the peel of a mixture of bitter and sweet oranges. Prenzel's Orangecello can be enjoyed neat as an aperitif or as a digestif but is also suitable for use in any of the very wide variety of cocktails that make use of either Triple Sec or Cointreau as their base.

Try the cocktails:

  • Highland Breeze over crushed ice - 1 part Orangecello to 2 parts Prenzel Butterscotch Cream
  • Barbarella - at 2 parts Orangecello to one part Prenzel White Sambuca - serve chilled or with ice
  • The list is endless - just Google 'Cointreau cocktails' or 'Triple Sec cocktails' and you will be swamped with ideas.

Olive Oils and fresh herbs are a match made in Heaven and at this time of year when Basil, Parsley and Mint are abundant why not take a little time to squirrel some away for a later date.

Pestos are great on an antipasto platter, to dress a little garlic bread and to use in pasta dishes. It’s always good to have a tasty Pesto on hand and here’s a recipe using River Estate Olive Oil that we enjoy making; it’s a must to keep in the fridge.

Prenzel VinconPRENZEL VINCON - WINE CONDIMENT
Prenzel Vincon Red and White Wine Stocks are a MUST in the cupboard. They are a great way to add wine to your cooking without the need to reduce and cook off the alcohol.

What is Vincon? Vincon is a concentrated red or white wine to be used in all cooking applications in which we would traditionally use wine.

When Prenzel Distilling Company was approached by a major NZ company to help them overcome this tedious process of ‘reduction', the project was taken on as a bit of challenge. Vincon was the result - a world first judging by its international acclaim.

Vincon gained notice on the international scene in its early days earning: Creativity award - CHH Food Awards 1997, and Category Winner - Most Innovative New Food Product in the World 1998 - SIAL (Paris)

The optimum way to use Vincon is by using it to flavour a dish as you would a Soy Sauce or any other condiment; by adding it according to taste when the cooking has finished.
If using a recipe which requires wine, Vincon can be added at any time, by diluting it with 3 times its amount of water or stock. This ensures that it will not be too concentrated and it's great for marinades.
So, use Vincon rather than wine in cooking and keep your wine for the purpose in which it was intended - drinking! Vincon will keep indefinitely once opened.

grapesEat Purple Grapes for Resveratrol
Grapes are very valuable nutritionally.
Resveratrol can be found in purple grapes on the skin. This substance has many benefits alone. This is because resveratrol is one of those antioxidants which fight against free radicals. Free radicals are dangerous types of molecules which attack the immune system, setting us up for many health problems. They try to attach themselves to other types of molecules in your body and make those harmful as well.
Resveratrol has a powerful effect on fighting various types of brain disabilities, such as dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Why? Because, Resveratrol reduces the production of a substance called Abeta. Abeta, is a harmful type of plaque found in people with Alzheimer's and dementia. The resveratrol kills this plaque formation, which does a lot for the prevention of cognitive impairments in people.

Resveratrol in grapes also have the ability to help hypertension.
Grapes also contain tannin. Tannin is like a natural type of antibiotic that helps to fight off colds and flu viruses. This substance in grapes goes into the stomach where it has a great absorption rate.
You know the old saying 'Eat, drink and be merry'; - it's good for you - but remember - everything in moderation.

Warm summertime wishes, from the team at Prenzel
