Analysis of Rice Bran Oil
Typical Fatty Acid Composition: Palmitic Acid
17%, Stearic 2%, Oleic Acid 42%, Linoleic Acid
34%, Linolenic Acid 1%.*
Research findings reported at a symposium sponsored
by the American Heart Association, indicate that
Rice Bran Oil has the unique ability to lower
harmful LDL cholesterol levels up to 30% without
reducing HDL or "good" cholesterol that
protects against heart attacks, and that "people
would need to consume less than two tablespoons
of the oil a day to get the benefits."
These health benefits are due to rice bran oil's
natural balance of mono and polyunsaturates, unsaponfiables,
and plant sterols which reduce cholesterol absorption
and deposition into arteries; gamma oryzanol which
reduces absorption and increases excretion of
cholesterol; also contains a significant amount
of naturally occurring tocopherols(vitamin E).
Rice Bran Oil has a light, delicate flavour for
use on salads. Low flavour transference makes
it excellent for frying or baking without changing
the taste of recipes. Long frying life and high
smoke point allows you to fry, sauté or
stir fry without sticking, thickening, smoking,
foaming or breakdown.*
Rice Bran contains over 60% of the nutrients
found in each kernel of rice.
When Harvested from the field, rice is in the
form of paddy rice (or rough rice), where the
kernel is fully enveloped by the rice hull. After
being dried, the hull is removed in the first
stage of milling, yielding the brown rice.
In the second stage of milling, the outer brown
layer is removed to produce the white rice.
The outer brown layer, called the "rice
bran", is composed of the rice germ and several
sub layers which account for approximately 8%
to 10% of the weight of paddy rice, and contains
over 60% of the nutrients found in each kernel
of rice.
Rice Bran is a rich source of hypoallergenic
protein, oils, dietary fibre and nutrients essential
to life. Rice Bran is unique in the plant kingdom
as it is the only major cereal that contains all
the essential amino acids, the necessary building
blocks of all protein in the body.
Rice Bran contains 18 to 23% oil, which is high
in polyunsaturates and monounsaturates. These
oils are; essential fatty acids, linolenic acid
(omega 3), linoleic acid (omega 6), and Oleic
acid (omega 9), which are all essential to maintain
good health.
Gamma Oryzanol:
May assist in lowering the levels of cholesterol
absorption and has powerful
antioxidant properties.
Natural Vitamin E (in the forms of Tocopherol
& Tocotrienol):
A natural antioxidant important to support the
body's immune system, neutralising and eliminating
those trapped free radicals and toxins that can
build up.
Oleic Acid (Omega 9):
This works with our body's, not against them,
optimising the natural digestion process and helping
to keep bowels regulated.
Linolenic Acid (Omega 3):
Nutrition for the brain and may help normal memory
function and concentration.
Linolenic Acid (Omega 6):
Essential for maintaining beautiful skin, as it
helps to stimulate the skin. May improve the condition
of your hair and help to maintain a good healthy,
reproductive system.
