Steamed Green Cabbage with Bacon

Steamed Green Cabbage with BaconGreen Cabbage is one of the cheapest veggies especially in winter and helps keep away the colds.

INGREDIENTS

  • Chopped bacon
  • Thinly sliced green cabbage (enough for the family)
  • 2 Tbsp Prenzel Butter Sunflower Oil or Garlic Infused Rice Bran Oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • A pinch of bicarbonate of soda (optional, but this brings out the green & looks wonderful)
  • 1 Tbsp Smoked Garlic Vinegar Sauce (optional)

METHOD

Fry bacon bits until crispy and place to one side to keep warm.

Slice cabbage thinly. Bring to the boil a small amount of water in a saucepan (about 2cm in the pan).
Add the salt and a small pinch of Bicarbonate of soda and Prenzel Butter Flavoured Oil or Prenzel Garlic Infused Rice Bran Oil to the water.

Add cabbage and cook with lid on for two minutes then stir & turn the cabbage over in the water. Replace the lid and cook for 2 or 3 more minutes.

Strain off excess water. Put in large dish or transfer back into saucepan. Stir in bacon bits and Smoked Garlic Vinegar Sauce. Serve hot.
